Hello Folks,
Day 1 was filled with so much excitement I just don't know where to start ... so how about in the middle. Just the other side of Chicago, I drove by the exits for Calumet City and Joliet .. two names that immediately reminded me of one of my favorite movies, 'The Blues Brothers', ' ..... I hate Illinois Nazis ....', '....there's lot's of space in this mall ...', '... the new Chryslers are in early this year ....'
Joliet of course is where Jake was a guest of the state .... Calumet City was where they gave the live concert to raise money to save the school.
So .... I am 66 miles from Chicago ... the temperature has risen from 18 to 32 C in about 30 minutes ... it's getting dark .. and I mean dark ... I glance down at the dashboard and this is the odometer reading I see ...
It starts to rain .... and I mean the sky has opened up ... I can't see anything ....
It's five lanes of total chaos .... flashers going ... breaks squealing .. and then ... just when it looks like there's going to be a pile-up ... the lights come on ....
Oh shit ... I'm not the only one on the road ... and then everything goes black again ... I reach for my bee ... ah, my diet coke and then the lights come on again ...
Gradually it gets lighter and I realize that I have been given a sign ... I am on a mission .... and 'some thing' is trying to stop me. It is now my job to sort out what the mission is, who it is for and what 'thing' is trying to prevent it.
Why can't I have a normal vacation like everybody else ...
To quote verse 666 of the Krome Koan,
'Oh well ... I guess this is just going to be one of those lifetimes ...'
I am hiding out somewhere near Carpentersville, Illinois ... yes, my watch is running backward ... yes there is a tractor beam probing the environs close to me ... yes, I have an excellent Belgian Style Wheat Ale in my hand ... and you had better believe I have my tin foil beanie on ...
More later ...
Forever Man
